Arizona is now the first state to accept identification through digital cards. The new program allows users to add their driver’s license or ID to their Apple Wallet. Apple also announced that they will be offering this feature in a handful of other states in the near future. Select TSA locations will also begin accepting the digital forms of ID.
This program may prove to be a helpful tool for drivers who are asked to present their license to a law enforcement officer. A portion of ARS 28-3151 states that “a person shall not drive a motor vehicle or vehicle combination on a highway without a valid driver license and proper endorsement as prescribed by this chapter”. This new program can help individuals who may forget their license at home stay in compliance with the law.
